She has traveled to more than seventy-six countries, including two historic solo trips to Afghanistan, and has launched groundbreaking education and healthcare programs in the U.S. and abroad.</p> <p>The author of the bestselling memoir, <em>Spoken From The Heart</em>, and bestselling children鈥檚 book, <em>Our Great Big Backyard</em>, Mrs. Bush also founded both the Texas Book Festival and the National Book Festival in Washington D.C.</p> <p>Today, as the Chair of the Woman鈥檚 Initiative at the George W. Bush Institute, Mrs. Bush continues her work on global healthcare innovations, empowering women in emerging democracies, education reform, and supporting the men and women who have served in America鈥檚 military.</p> <p>Born in Midland, Texas to Jenna and Harold Welch, Mrs. Bush holds a degree in education and a master鈥檚 degree in library science. She taught in public schools in Dallas, Houston, and Austin, and worked as a public-school librarian. In 1977, she married George W. Bush. President and Mrs. Bush are the parents of twin daughters: Barbara, married to Craig Coyne, and Jenna, married to Henry Hager. &nbsp;The Bushes also are the proud grandparents of Margaret Laura 鈥淢ila鈥 and Poppy Louise Hager. The Bush family also includes two cats, Bob and Bernadette, as well as Freddy the dog.</p> <h3>Barbara Pierce Bush</h3> <p><img alt height="300" src="/sites/default/files/BarbaraPierceBush.jpg" style="float:right" width="214" loading="lazy"></p> <p>Barbara Pierce Bush is Co-Founder and Board Chair of Global Health Corps, which mobilizes a global community of young leaders to build the movement for health equity. GHC was founded in 2009 by six twenty-somethings who were challenged by Peter Piot at the aids2031 Young Leaders Summit to engage their generation in solving the world鈥檚 biggest health challenges. Barbara and her co-founders were united by the belief that health is a human right and that their generation must build the world where this is realized. Since that time, GHC has placed nearly 1,000 young leaders on the front lines of health equity in Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Rwanda, Zambia and the United States, developing a cadre of creative, effective and compassionate change makers.</p> <p>Before joining GHC鈥檚 founding team in 2008, Barbara worked in Educational Programming at the Smithsonian Institution鈥檚 Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. Previously, she worked for Red Cross Children鈥檚 Hospital in Capetown, South Africa and interned for UNICEF in Botswana. She has also traveled with the UN World Food Programme, focusing on the importance of nutrition in ARV treatment.</p> <p>Barbara is a member of UNICEF鈥檚 Next Generation Steering Committee and is one of the World Economic Forum鈥檚 Young Global Shapers. She is on the Board of Directors of Covenant House International, PSI, and Friends of the Global Fight for AIDS, TB, and Malaria. Born and raised in Maine, Beth built her career in sales distribution, working for global companies such as Northern Telecom and Philips Semiconductors. Building on those experiences, she created Sea Bags, an entrepreneurial venture that hand-stitches totes out of recycled sails on a wharf in Portland, Maine.</p> <p>Since its founding in 2006, Sea Bags has grown to operate 23 retail stores, a robust online business and over 800 wholesale accounts. The company has employed over 200 people, many of whom Beth has mentored and who have gone on to run their own companies.</p> <p>Beth and Sea Bags have been recognized in many publications, including Forbes. Sea Bags was named Small Business of the Year by the Small Business Administration and received the Governor鈥檚 Business Excellence Award in 2018. In addition to community service, Beth has been named a Woman to Watch by Maine Biz.</p> <p>Beth earned her bachelor鈥檚 degree in business administration and international studies from Heidelberg in 1990 and her MBA from Boston University. She is the founder and president of KMM Sports, a full-service sports management company based in Oklahoma City. While managing KMM, Ms. Masters continues to practice law as an Of Counsel member of Fellers Snider Law Firm, while also representing athletes in football, baseball and Olympic sports. &nbsp;</p> <p>In 2010, Ms. Masters became the first woman to represent a first-round pick in the NFL Draft, and she continues to fight for opportunities for women in a very male-dominated industry. Bleacher Report recognized her in 2014 as one of the 25 Most Influential Women in Sports worldwide. &nbsp;</p> <p>Ms. Masters earned her bachelor鈥檚 degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma, and her Juris Doctor degree with honors from OU鈥檚 College of Law. Lozano is President and CEO of the College Futures Foundation, a philanthropic organization dedicated to college access and college success for low-income and underrepresented students. She is a widely respected leader in business, news media, philanthropy and education.</p> <p>An icon in Hispanic media, Ms. Lozano joined La Opini贸n, the country鈥檚 leading Spanish-language daily newspaper, in 1985. She became Publisher and CEO in 2004 and served as Chairman and CEO of the parent company from 2010-2016. She is also co-founder and Chair of the Aspen Institute Latinos and Society program.</p> <p>She serves on a number of boards, including the Weingart Foundation Board of Trustees, and has served as a trustee of the University of Southern California and the California State Board of Education. An appointee of President Obama to the Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, Ms. Lozano also served on the President鈥檚 Economic Recovery Advisory Board. She received the 2017 Los Angeles Business Person of the Year award and was named one of Fortune Magazine鈥檚 50 Most Influential Latinas. She has been part of the KSTP-TV 5 Eyewitness News team since January 2014. At KSTP-TV, Ms. Powell anchors Saturday night newscasts as well as morning newscasts on both Saturdays and Sundays. She also reports news stories in the field on weekdays.</p> <p>Previously, Ms. Powell was a reporter/multi-media journalist at KNSD-TV (NBC affiliate) in San Diego from 2011-2013, covering breaking news, crime and politics.&nbsp;While at KNSD-TV, she also served as a regular&nbsp;on-air contributor for "Politically Speaking," the station's weekly public affairs show. From 2008-09, she was a reporter, video journalist and county bureau chief at News 8 in Austin, Texas, covering Fort Hood and surrounding communities. Ms. Powell鈥檚 first on-air position was as a political reporter at KFYR-TV (NBC affiliate) in Bismarck, North Dakota, where she covered statewide elections and legislative sessions from 2006-2008. She began her career behind the scenes as a production assistant at MSNBC from 2005-2006. Two internships helped to shape her career 鈥 one with The Washington Center for the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York City and one with Dateline NBC.</p> <p>She is the recipient of multiple team Emmy awards and several individual Emmy nominations, and earned two North Dakota Associated Press awards. Professionally, Ms. Powell is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Twin Cities Black Journalists. She regularly attends events and moderates panel discussions in her community.</p> <p>Ms. Powell&nbsp;earned her&nbsp;master鈥檚 degree in anthropology with a concentration in international development from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She received her bachelor鈥檚 degree in communication studies with a minor in Spanish from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. As an undergraduate, she studied abroad in Barcelona and Salamanca, Spain.</p> <p>In her spare time, Ms. Powell enjoys traveling and learning about different cultures. She loves to paint, watch movies, hike and attend live jazz and theatre performances.
