Description

Reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement & Alumni Affairs, the Director of The Heidelberg Fund will develop and implement strategies to ensure the success and growth of a $1M+ comprehensive annual giving program as an integral component of ̽��ѡ’s overall institutional advancement program. This includes outreach efforts to alumni and friends, trustees, faculty, staff, parents, current students, corporations and businesses. This position will lead all annual giving tasks including: developing marketing strategies; making personal visits; supporting fundraising planning efforts; working with volunteers and students; evaluating solicitation outcomes and researching tactics.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Report directly to the VP UAAA. Work closely with other members of the UAAA team as needed.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: The Director of The Heidelberg Fund will be responsible for the achievement of the goals of the annual giving program, and will supervise student employees assigned to Phonathon and other programs.

Responsibilities

Represent ̽��ѡ in the successful preparation, coordination, execution and evaluation of the annual giving program.

Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward alumni, parents and friends of the University in support of the annual fund through direct mail solicitations, e-mail solicitations, social media, crowdfunding, telephone contact, and management of a small portfolio of prospects to achieve annual goals. Develop new segmentation strategies to increase donor count and dollars raised.

Develop the constituent goals for the annual fund and solicitation strategies in consultation with the VP UAAA and the Executive Director of Alumni Engagement and Major Gifts.

Manage the Phonathon efforts and call leads, and analyze the statistics of these efforts. Hire, train, coach and motivate student employees, including student managers.

Plan, execute and steward the yearly Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign.

Promote gift societies and respective giving levels to new donors. Oversee the growth and retention of the University’s Leadership giving society, Presidential Fellows. Manage a small portfolio of Presidential Fellow prospects.

Enhance student philanthropy education and student fundraising efforts with special focus given to the senior class gift. Creatively expand outreach to undergraduates and young graduates on the importance of philanthropic engagement.

Develop focused and detailed strategies to increase awareness of and gifts to the annual fund, especially for the first three years for new donors and lapsed donors. Develop and implement a strategic plan to secure first-time and recurring gifts from parents.

Prepare an Annual Fund Calendar to track appeals, cultivation opportunities and stewardship events.

Provide monthly annual reporting and benchmarking, including analysis of giving information and research into peer institutions to examine and track the success of our plan. Compile and evaluate the outcome of all solicitations with data from previous years.

Coordinate Berg Days of Summer with Athletics and Advancement Services.

Work closely with Marketing and Communication Services on social media, outreach, publications and e-solicitation. Develop marketing strategies in consultation with vendors and The Office of Marketing & Communication Services for direct mail and electronic solicitation.

Utilize Advancement Services to achieve and advance the goals of The Heidelberg Fund. Work collaboratively to generate mailing lists, strategic solicitations, and optimal stewardship of annual fund donors.

Work with UAM team members and others for overall success of ̽��ѡ alumni engagement and fundraising.

Engage, communicate and work collaboratively and respectfully with students, faculty, staff and other members of the greater ̽��ѡ community.

Other responsibilities as assigned by the VP UAAA.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; and,
Two (2) to three (3) years successful experience in a college or university development operation; and,
Experience working with an integrated database like Banner or other CRM.

Preferred Experience

Five (5) or more years successful experience in annual fundraising for higher education; and,
Experience with Banner, our integrated database.

The PALS 10th Anniversary Celebration is only open to invited guests and members of the campus community. All events have reached capacity.

In creating the Patricia Adams Lecture Series, John and Pat Adams sought to provide extraordinary opportunities for all Heidelberg students, graduate and undergraduate, as well as faculty and staff, and the broader Tiffin community. The first lecture in the series was held in September 2010 and coincided with the grand opening of Adams Hall at ̽��ѡ, home to the new School of Business. The lecture series is named to honor Pat Adams’ long-standing loyalty to and passion for ̽��ѡ, her tireless philanthropic spirit, her values of education and leadership and her desire to leave a legacy at the university that has meant so much to both her and John throughout their lives.

Keynote Speakers

Laura Bush

One of the most beloved and admired American First Ladies, for decades Laura Bush has championed key issues in the fields of education, health care, and human rights. She has traveled to more than seventy-six countries, including two historic solo trips to Afghanistan, and has launched groundbreaking education and healthcare programs in the U.S. and abroad.

The author of the bestselling memoir, Spoken From The Heart, and bestselling children’s book, Our Great Big Backyard, Mrs. Bush also founded both the Texas Book Festival and the National Book Festival in Washington D.C.

Today, as the Chair of the Woman’s Initiative at the George W. Bush Institute, Mrs. Bush continues her work on global healthcare innovations, empowering women in emerging democracies, education reform, and supporting the men and women who have served in America’s military.

Born in Midland, Texas to Jenna and Harold Welch, Mrs. Bush holds a degree in education and a master’s degree in library science. She taught in public schools in Dallas, Houston, and Austin, and worked as a public-school librarian. In 1977, she married George W. Bush. President and Mrs. Bush are the parents of twin daughters: Barbara, married to Craig Coyne, and Jenna, married to Henry Hager. The Bushes also are the proud grandparents of Margaret Laura “Mila” and Poppy Louise Hager. The Bush family also includes two cats, Bob and Bernadette, as well as Freddy the dog.

Barbara Pierce Bush

Barbara Pierce Bush is Co-Founder and Board Chair of Global Health Corps, which mobilizes a global community of young leaders to build the movement for health equity. GHC was founded in 2009 by six twenty-somethings who were challenged by Peter Piot at the aids2031 Young Leaders Summit to engage their generation in solving the world’s biggest health challenges. Barbara and her co-founders were united by the belief that health is a human right and that their generation must build the world where this is realized. Since that time, GHC has placed nearly 1,000 young leaders on the front lines of health equity in Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Rwanda, Zambia and the United States, developing a cadre of creative, effective and compassionate change makers.

Before joining GHC’s founding team in 2008, Barbara worked in Educational Programming at the Smithsonian Institution’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. Previously, she worked for Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Capetown, South Africa and interned for UNICEF in Botswana. She has also traveled with the UN World Food Programme, focusing on the importance of nutrition in ARV treatment.

Barbara is a member of UNICEF’s Next Generation Steering Committee and is one of the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Shapers. She is on the Board of Directors of Covenant House International, PSI, and Friends of the Global Fight for AIDS, TB, and Malaria. In October 2017, she also released Sisters First, a New York Times best seller co-authored with her twin sister, Jenna Hager. Barbara graduated from Yale University with a degree in humanities in 2004.

̽��ѡ alumna Elizabeth (Greenlaw) Shissler is President & Chief Operating Officer of Sea Bags, LLC. Born and raised in Maine, Beth built her career in sales distribution, working for global companies such as Northern Telecom and Philips Semiconductors. Building on those experiences, she created Sea Bags, an entrepreneurial venture that hand-stitches totes out of recycled sails on a wharf in Portland, Maine.

Since its founding in 2006, Sea Bags has grown to operate 23 retail stores, a robust online business and over 800 wholesale accounts. The company has employed over 200 people, many of whom Beth has mentored and who have gone on to run their own companies.

Beth and Sea Bags have been recognized in many publications, including Forbes. Sea Bags was named Small Business of the Year by the Small Business Administration and received the Governor’s Business Excellence Award in 2018. In addition to community service, Beth has been named a Woman to Watch by Maine Biz.

Beth earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration and international studies from Heidelberg in 1990 and her MBA from Boston University. She lives in Scarborough, Maine, with her son, Aiden.

Kelli Masters is an attorney and certified NFL sports agent. She is the founder and president of KMM Sports, a full-service sports management company based in Oklahoma City. While managing KMM, Ms. Masters continues to practice law as an Of Counsel member of Fellers Snider Law Firm, while also representing athletes in football, baseball and Olympic sports.

In 2010, Ms. Masters became the first woman to represent a first-round pick in the NFL Draft, and she continues to fight for opportunities for women in a very male-dominated industry. Bleacher Report recognized her in 2014 as one of the 25 Most Influential Women in Sports worldwide.

Ms. Masters earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma, and her Juris Doctor degree with honors from OU’s College of Law. She is a former national and world champion baton twirler, and was also Miss Oklahoma 1997, winning awards for talent and community service at the Miss America pageant that year.

Currently, Ms. Masters serves as an adjunct professor at Oklahoma Christian University, teaching sports law.

Monica C. Lozano is President and CEO of the College Futures Foundation, a philanthropic organization dedicated to college access and college success for low-income and underrepresented students. She is a widely respected leader in business, news media, philanthropy and education.

An icon in Hispanic media, Ms. Lozano joined La Opinión, the country’s leading Spanish-language daily newspaper, in 1985. She became Publisher and CEO in 2004 and served as Chairman and CEO of the parent company from 2010-2016. She is also co-founder and Chair of the Aspen Institute Latinos and Society program.

She serves on a number of boards, including the Weingart Foundation Board of Trustees, and has served as a trustee of the University of Southern California and the California State Board of Education. An appointee of President Obama to the Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, Ms. Lozano also served on the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board. She received the 2017 Los Angeles Business Person of the Year award and was named one of Fortune Magazine’s 50 Most Influential Latinas. In 2016 she was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Brandi Powell is an anchor/reporter with KSTP-TV (ABC affiliate) in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. She has been part of the KSTP-TV 5 Eyewitness News team since January 2014. At KSTP-TV, Ms. Powell anchors Saturday night newscasts as well as morning newscasts on both Saturdays and Sundays. She also reports news stories in the field on weekdays.

Previously, Ms. Powell was a reporter/multi-media journalist at KNSD-TV (NBC affiliate) in San Diego from 2011-2013, covering breaking news, crime and politics. While at KNSD-TV, she also served as a regular on-air contributor for "Politically Speaking," the station's weekly public affairs show. From 2008-09, she was a reporter, video journalist and county bureau chief at News 8 in Austin, Texas, covering Fort Hood and surrounding communities. Ms. Powell’s first on-air position was as a political reporter at KFYR-TV (NBC affiliate) in Bismarck, North Dakota, where she covered statewide elections and legislative sessions from 2006-2008. She began her career behind the scenes as a production assistant at MSNBC from 2005-2006. Two internships helped to shape her career – one with The Washington Center for the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York City and one with Dateline NBC.

She is the recipient of multiple team Emmy awards and several individual Emmy nominations, and earned two North Dakota Associated Press awards. Professionally, Ms. Powell is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Twin Cities Black Journalists. She regularly attends events and moderates panel discussions in her community.

Ms. Powell earned her master’s degree in anthropology with a concentration in international development from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She received her bachelor’s degree in communication studies with a minor in Spanish from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. As an undergraduate, she studied abroad in Barcelona and Salamanca, Spain.

In her spare time, Ms. Powell enjoys traveling and learning about different cultures. She loves to paint, watch movies, hike and attend live jazz and theatre performances. She is conversational in Spanish.
