Communication Major

Marketing and Communications Intern

United Church Homes - Marion, Ohio

Where and when did you intern and what were your responsibilities?

I interned at United Church Homes, a nonprofit in Marion, Ohio. I worked in the Marketing and Communications department. My responsibilities included writing articles and press releases, posting on social media and being the project manager for the brochure redesign.

What was the best part about your internship?

The best part about my internship was getting real, hands-on experience in my field of study, which is communication. I now have a concrete idea of where my degree could lead me.

How did your internship connect to your major and/or your planned career?

Because of this experience, I have decided that would love to work at a nonprofit someday so that I can use my skills while contributing to the greater good of society.

What advice would you give to current students considering an internship?

Find an internship in the area you are interested in. Then, work as hard as you can and it'll be worth it. I learned so many valuable skills over the summer that I would not have had otherwise. It's a memorable experience that every student should have.
