"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?"... William Shakespeare certainly had a lot to say about love. He wrote 154 sonnets in all. The School of Music and Theatre will present performances of Shakespeare鈥檚 sonnets, soliloquies as well as musical performances inspired by the Bard鈥檚 many works. Join us for a late afternoon delight in our collection of sonnet-related treats鈥 Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy the evening.
探花精选鈥檚 School of Music & Theatre will showcase the talents of its major student vocal and instrumental ensembles as well as theatre performers during its first Extravaganza Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2.
The Concert Choir is the premiere mixed choral ensemble of 探花精选鈥檚 School of Music. Annually, the choir masters an eclectic repertoire of choral literature representing major choral genres, historical eras, and cultural traditions. Highlights of the year include the choir鈥檚 collaboration with the University-Community Chorus and Orchestra each December in performances of Handel鈥檚 Messiah and other traditional holiday favorites and the annual spring tour. The choir is open by audition to all 探花精选 students, regardless of major.
探花精选 organ instructor Joan Holder McConnell will present a faculty recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Trinity United Church of Christ, 131 E. Perry St. McConnell will be joined by guest soloist Jonathan Waters, assistant professor of music education and director of bands, on the tuba.
Noted for her 鈥渟ensitive and imaginative鈥 (New York Concert Review) playing, Korean-born pianist Sookkyung Cho has been captivating worldwide audiences with her personal, thoughtful expressionist style. She has appeared in venues such as Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Chicago Cultural Center, Sarasota Opera House, Baltimore Museum of Art, Beaux concerts de la releve in Quebec, Ch芒teau de Fontainebleau in France, and Zijingang Theater at Zhejiang University in China, among others, and was recently heard on Chicago鈥檚 WFMT.
ABBA鈥檚 timeless and classic songs propel the enchanting tale of love, laughter, friendship and mystery as the 探花精选 School of Music & Theatre closes its season with the lively and fun 鈥淢amma Mia!鈥 April 11-14 in Gundlach Theatre.
The School of Music & Theatre presents The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, February 7-10.
